M O R E A B O U T M O I
In my late teens I discovered that the haunting ‘episodes’ I had had all my life was widely recognised, and even had a name – Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
I was recommended medication – I said yes
For six months it was SUCH a relief. Bliss. For the first time.
During my Art & Drama A-Levels my anxiety and stress levels had manifested as cystic acne.
I was recommended more medication – I said no
I was determined to understand, and heal, the root cause – Hello adult education. I retrained in Beauty Therapy Qualifications inc. Skin Science & Body Massage.
As a clear-skinned masseuse with a passion for relaxation, I figured there must be a way to come off the GAD meds – Hello meditation and self-enquiry.
In my late 30’s I discovered that the inner workings of my mind were also widely recognised, and even had a name – ADHD.
I was recommended medication, I said no again.
My meditative and conscious way of living meant that not only were my GAD & ADHD symptoms managed by my regulated nervous system, I am now such a centered person that my family nearly fell off their chair when they heard my ADHD diagnosis…
I love that there is now so much science behind the mind–body connection.
The FACT that thoughts generated in our brain can affect the nervous system and impact our physical health, immunity and general mood fascinates & excites me.
When our sympathetic nervous system is stimulated through fight or flight hormones adrenaline and cortisol (oh hi, mortgage rates, road rage and limiting beliefs), so many internal systems shut down and our capacity for rationale, compassion and regeneration is impaired. Hello, knob-ish behavior. No thanks.
However, when we slide into our rest and digest mode, the parasympathetic nervous system, by activating our bliss hormones serotonin and oxytocin (bless you pets, pleasure and boundaries), our bodies turn into rejuvenating MACHINES.
Cellular regeneration leads to boosted immunity, damage repair and healthy systems. So ANYTHING that relaxes you is medicine.
Music is medicine, massage is medicine, telling toxic people to fuck off is medicine
I feel a calling to be in Service by being available to as many people as possible who find my unique contribution their sort of medicine. Be it through physical touch relaxation or one of my VAL-YOU-S workshops that help you live a more value-aligned life…. May I hold space while you fill your own cup so you can pour goodness into the world.
